Since the start of the season Harlequins players have been busy visiting some of our Affiliate Rugby Clubs across the South East of England.
Over the past five weeks Ross Chisholm has visited Horsham RFC, Winston Stanley has been to see Teddington RFC, Mat Luamanu was at Guildfordians RFC, Sam Twomey went to Reigate RFC and most recently Mike Brown and Joe Marler spent their Sunday mornings at Weybridge Vandals Rugby club and Eastbourne RFC respectively.
The players spent their mornings inspiring young rugby players by assisting our community coaches, sharing their knowledge by participating in question and answer sessions, as well as taking time to sign signatures and take photos. Here’s what some of our clubs had to say about the players visits:
Sam Elliot – Teddington RFC Liaison Officer: “It was great to host Winston, Mark and Stevie a couple of weeks back. Winston was really personable with both coaches and kids alike and immediately got involved with the sessions.”
Alan Krikorian – Weybridge Vandals RFC Minis Chair: “Thanks to Paul and Mike for visiting so many age groups and handling all the questions and requests for autographs/selfies so nicely. I thought Mike was a great ambassador for Quins and the kids clearly loved having him there."
All the clubs visited are part of the Harlequins Community Affiliate Club Programme which aims to support the development of community rugby across the South East of England. As well as the opportunity to welcome a Harlequins player to their club, the affiliate clubs receive a host of benefits including the chance to host a rugby camp throughout the year.
After a record breaking Summer Camp Programme, the Community Team will be delivering seven camps during the October half term break at the following locations: the Twickenham Stoop, Winchester RFC, Warlingham RFC, Effingham and Leatherhead RFC, Old Reigatian RFC, Haslemere RFC, Cranleigh RFC and a girls only camp at The Stoop. For more information and to book your place please visit: www.rugbycamps.co.uk/harlequins.
We would like to extend our thanks to all our hard-working community clubs and the players for taking some time out of their Sunday morning. We look forward to continuing our engagement in the community.
