Harlequins Ladies Head Coach Karen Findlay on her side’s commanding, Round 8 victory against Wasps FC Ladies at the Home of Harlequins on Sunday

Having achieved their fifth win on the bounce in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, Findlay was delighted with the team’s performance: “It was important for us to get the win and finish this match off, especially with a number of the squad heading off to play in the Autumn Test matches. We are hugely proud of the way the girls got the job done this evening”.

Harlequins Ladies have now solidified their third-placed position with the win against Wasps, and now sit only four points behind second-placed Saracens Women who are on 35 points.

“This season has been a building process in terms of momentum and building our strength and depth and finding out what combinations work so we can really rotate the squad for different challenges” says Findlay. “We’re delighted with our position at this point in the year, and how that’s all progressed”.

Findlay was especially pleased with the performance of the forward pack: “We were strong in our scrum and the attack mentality in that area was outstanding. That carried into our lineout execution and our pressure on Wasps in that area. Both in the set piece and in the ruck and the maul we exerted ourselves physically”.

“Abbie (Scott), Davinia (Catlin), Shaunagh (Brown), and Vickii (Cornborough) dominated their collisions and gave us real go-forward, and the platform that allowed the backs to show their gas”.

The goal kicking display from young fly-half Ellie Green also pleased the Head Coach, especially how it consolidated the team tries: “It’s so important in these matches to keep the scoreboard ticking over and keep the opposition pinned down. The defensive effort from the whole squad was equally committed and didn’t allow Wasps time nor space”.

Being able to play in front of a vocal, home crowd at The Stoop, argues the Head Coach, has been pivotal to their success: “This ground is becoming a fortress for us, and I’m really pleased for the girls who get the opportunity to play here and want to offer a huge thank you to those who stayed behind to cheer us on.”

Harlequins Ladies will look to continue their winning run on Saturday 24th November when they play Darlington Mowden Park Sharks in Round 9 of the Tyrrells Premier 15s at the Northern Echo Arena (kick-off, 15:00)
