Quins put in another dominant performance to secure their third successive League win, at The Stoop against Gloucester Hartpury 39-12
A double from Shaunagh Brown and further scores from Leanne Riley, Giada Franco, and Sarah Beckett, and two penalties from Ellie Green were enough to secure the victory in front of a 1720-strong crowd at the Home of Harlequins.
A third win and a third try scoring bonus point cements Quins position at the top of the Tyrrells Premier 15s.
Quins came out of the blocks fast and after a period of sustained pressure, Leanne Riley touched down for her side’s first try. With the extras added by Ellie Green, Quins led 7-0 with just five minutes on the clock.
The intensity of the collisions on the field were outstanding with neither side giving an inch in defence or attack. Despite having the lion share of the possession in the opening quarter, Quins had to fight for every blade of grass.
On the 22-minute mark, the visitors scored a try of their own through second row Zoe Aldcroft. With the extras added by Natasha Hunt, the scores were level 7-7.
10 minutes later, Giada Franco rumbled over to put her side back on top with half-time fast approaching. Even with the conversion missed, Quins led by five, 12-7.
After the interval, Quins found themselves once again inside the Gloucester 22, peppering the visitor’s defence with incisive running lines. Under pressure, the cherry and whites gave away a penalty, giving Green the chance to extend her side’s lead from the tee. With the penalty added, Quins led 15-7 on 46 minutes.
The hosts followed up the penalty with another try on the 50-minute mark by Shaunagh Brown. With the extras again added by Green, the side led 22-7.
However, a few minutes later, Gloucester responded with another try, this time by Fullback Emma Sing. Even with the conversion missed, the away side had reduced the points deficit, 22-12.
On 64 minutes, Shaunagh Brown drove over from a few metres out to re-assert her side’s lead and bring up the try-scoring bonus point. With the extras added by Green, the score stood at 29-12 to Quins.
On 68 minutes, Ellie Green was on hand to increase the squad’s tally from the tee. With the penalty successfully converted, Quins led 32-12.
On the 75-minute mark, debutant Sarah Beckett crashed over following a dominant scrum on the opposition try line. With the extras added by Green, Quins led 39-12.
Harlequins Women are back in action next Saturday, away against Darlington Mowden Park Sharks at the Northern Echo Arena (kick-off: 13:00).
