Wednesday, 8th May 2019 @ 07:00

Joe Marchant and Alex Dombrandt win two prizes a piece at the 2018/19 End of Season Awards ceremony earlier this evening, with Chris Robshaw and Emily Scott picking up Player of the Season and Norton Rose Fulbright Player of the Year respectively

Marchant took home the Nick Duncombe Young Player of the Year award as well as the DHL Moment of the Year award for his spectacular try against Saracens at The Stoop in Round 6 of the Gallagher Premiership.

Already an established member of the Harlequins Senior squad, Marchant has enjoyed another stellar season in the quarters, scoring 13 tries in all competitions, 10 of which coming in the league - the joint second highest in the competition overall.

Alex Dombrandt also won two awards, including the adidas Supporters’ Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the season, voted for by the Harlequins squad. Having joined the Club from Cardiff Metropolitan University over the summer, the former Wales U20 back row has shone in his first season at Harlequins, making 23 appearances and scoring 11 tries in all competitions.

Harlequins Co-Captain and club legend Chris Robshaw picked up the big prize of the night, winning the Player of the Season award due to his array of outstanding performances so far this season. Robshaw gave another Man of the Match performance on Friday night in the dramatic victory against Leicester Tigers, making 13 tackles and 15 carries.

Harlequins Ladies fullback Emily Scott picked up the inaugural Norton Rose Fulbright Player of the Year for her exploits in the quartered shirt this season, following her transfer from the England Sevens programme last summer. Able to cover fullback and fly-half, the former Olympian has provided a different dimension in terms of attack and brought added security in defence, that proved crucial in helping the side reach their second consecutive Tyrrells Premier 15s final.

Former England U20 Star Gabriel Ibitoye was also a winner on the night, with his athletic finish against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park in Round 12 being named as the Greene King IPA Try of the Season.

Having forced the turnover inside his own 22, Ibitoye passed to fullback Mike Brown who kicked the ball downfield for Joe Marchant to chase and recover. Now near the Falcons tryline, Quins managed to recycle the ball, meaning that fly-half Marcus Smith could spread the ball wide to Ibitoye who finished in the corner, helping secure a crucial win away from home.

The Club congratulates all the winners from tonight’s ceremony and thanks them for their service this season.
