Riley: “It’s going to be a hell of a match on Saturday”

Harlequins Ladies scrum-half Leanne Riley talks to Quins TV about RFU Contracts and her excitement at going up against Saracens Women at Allianz Park this weekend

Having recently returned from the England EPS Camp at Bisham Abbey, Riley feels refreshed and ready to get back into training at the Club: “It was tough, it was physical, and it was just what we needed to start 2019 on a high.”

Riley was one of six Harlequins Ladies players awarded a full-time contract with the RFU and feels that this development will be of huge benefit, both individually and for the women’s game as whole:  “It feels amazing. It’s the ultimate dream. I’m really excited to have one sole focus; on my training, recovery and individual skills.”

“England have taken the game onto a whole other level, and hopefully we’ll see that translate more and more into the Tyrrells Premier 15s.”

“There are young and inspiring girls at local rugby clubs that come and watch us play for both Harlequins and England and, for them to know that we are professional and that there is a possible career for them, is a massive step in the women’s game.”

Leanne’s prime focus now, however, is preparing for this weekend’s Round 14 match against league-leaders Saracens Women at Allianz Park: “I’m so looking forward to the challenge. Training has been tough in terms of drilling down the basics. We know that they are a tough, physical side, and that its going to be a hell of a match on Saturday.”

“We had a great run before Christmas and we took a lot from that and we want to continue that streak as we enter the international break.”

Harlequins has launched The Game Changer for their final Tyrrells Premier 15s match of the 2018/19 campaign when they face Gloucester Hartpury at The Stoop on Saturday 30th March (kick-off, 15:00).
